2019 – Rookie Year (Rover Ruckus)
Team Sheldon was officially founded in 2019, during the Rover Ruckus FTC season. Although we didn’t compete at an event that year, this was the spark — the year Team Sheldon began its journey into the world of competitive robotics.

Team Milestones

At Team Sheldon, you won’t just build robots — you’ll build an impressive skill set that’ll carry you far beyond the competition arena.

Team Formation - 2019
Team Sheldon was officially founded during the Rover Ruckus FTC season. Although we didn't compete at an event that year, it marked the beginning of our journey into the world of robotics.
First Competition Entry - 2022
After several years of growth and development, Team Sheldon entered the POWERPLAYâ„  season. This was our first time stepping onto the competition field, where we began building foundational skills in engineering, coding, and teamwork.
First Award - 2024
Our second competitive season took us underwater in the INTO THE DEEP℠ challenge. We earned the Design Award for our robot’s mechanical creativity and engineering documentation, and qualified for the Regional Championships.

Looking Forward

Building on our achievements, Team Sheldon continues to set ambitious goals for future seasons and expanded impact in the robotics community.

Aiming for Nationals
We’re setting our sights on the Australian National Championships. With each season, we’re growing stronger — refining our strategy, engineering process, and outreach impact to become a top-performing team in the country.
Strengthening Industry Partnerships
We’re deepening our relationships with sponsors and industry partners — not just for financial support, but to gain mentorship, real-world exposure, and future pathways in engineering, software, and design. Every collaboration helps us level up.

Skills & Learning

At Team Sheldon, you won’t just build robots — you’ll build an impressive skill set that’ll carry you far beyond the competition arena.

Advanced Programming
Team members develop strong coding skills in languages like Java, Python, and C++, using professional-grade robotics frameworks. You’ll get hands-on experience programming autonomous functions, integrating artificial intelligence, and crafting robust strategies for real-time problem-solving on the field.
Mechanical Engineering
From 3D modelling to full-scale construction, you'll learn how to design, prototype, and build complex mechanical systems. Using tools like CAD software, CNC routers, and other fabrication equipment, you'll explore materials science, understand how drivetrains and gearboxes work, and gain practical experience in mechanical design and assembly.
Leadership Excellence
In Team Sheldon, leadership isn’t just a title — it’s a skill. You’ll learn to lead projects, manage time and teams, and coordinate complex tasks under pressure. From mentoring newer members to running sub-teams and refining match strategy, leadership here is about inspiring others and delivering results.
Business Acumen
You’ll master the art of pitching, sponsorship acquisition, and budget management. Whether it's writing sponsor emails, maintaining professional relationships, or presenting our team at public events, you'll gain real-world business skills that turn STEM passion into long-term success.
Communication Mastery
From high-pressure match calls to technical presentations, you’ll become a confident communicator. You’ll practise public speaking, explain complex ideas clearly, and work effectively with a team, learning how to adapt your voice depending on the audience — whether it’s judges, sponsors, or students at an outreach event.
