About Us

Team Sheldon is the robotics pride of Sheldon College, proudly competing in FIRST Robotics competitions across FTC and FRC. We design, code, and build robots that take on real-world inspired challenges — all while growing as a team and making an impact beyond the playing field.

Team Excellence
From creative thinkers and precise builders to strategic masterminds and coding experts, we’re a tight-knit team of high school students who thrive on collaboration, hands-on learning, and solving complex problems through STEM.

About FIRST

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is a global youth-serving nonprofit that prepares young people for the future through inclusive, team-based robotics programs that combine the excitement of sport with the rigour of STEM.

Innovation
FIRST empowers students with technical knowledge, real-world problem-solving, and communication skills, all wrapped in the core value of Gracious Professionalism®.
Hands-On Learning
Everything in FIRST is about doing — students don’t just watch, they design, code, build, test, lead, pitch, and present.
Global Community
Join a worldwide movement of students, mentors, and volunteers united by the power of STEM.

Skills & Learning

At Team Sheldon, you won’t just build robots — you’ll build an impressive skill set that’ll carry you far beyond the competition arena.

Advanced Programming
Team members develop strong coding skills in languages like Java, Python, and C++, using professional-grade robotics frameworks. You’ll get hands-on experience programming autonomous functions, integrating artificial intelligence, and crafting robust strategies for real-time problem-solving on the field.
Mechanical Engineering
From 3D modelling to full-scale construction, you'll learn how to design, prototype, and build complex mechanical systems. Using tools like CAD software, CNC routers, and other fabrication equipment, you'll explore materials science, understand how drivetrains and gearboxes work, and gain practical experience in mechanical design and assembly.
Leadership Excellence
In Team Sheldon, leadership isn’t just a title — it’s a skill. You’ll learn to lead projects, manage time and teams, and coordinate complex tasks under pressure. From mentoring newer members to running sub-teams and refining match strategy, leadership here is about inspiring others and delivering results.
Business Acumen
You’ll master the art of pitching, sponsorship acquisition, and budget management. Whether it's writing sponsor emails, maintaining professional relationships, or presenting our team at public events, you'll gain real-world business skills that turn STEM passion into long-term success.
Communication Mastery
From high-pressure match calls to technical presentations, you’ll become a confident communicator. You’ll practise public speaking, explain complex ideas clearly, and work effectively with a team, learning how to adapt your voice depending on the audience — whether it’s judges, sponsors, or students at an outreach event.
